Environmental & Sedimentary Lab
The sedimentary and environmental geochemistry laboratories house facilties for the storage, processing, sampling, pretreatment, and sediment analysis of sediment cores of various types, as well as a wide range of environmental materials and samples. The newly-completed sediment processing laboratory includes a walk-in cold room, sediment core preparation lab, sample preparation lab, computer and microscope lab (with both petrographic and binocular microscopes), and gas source mass spectrometry lab. The laboratory also houses a computer-controlled micromill for very high-resolution sampling across incrementally banded or deposits growth layers (such as coral, mollusks, fish otolith growth bands, or growth bands in speleothem deposits). The laboratories are located on the first floor of McCone Hall (rooms 115, 119, and 155).
