Welcome to the UC Berkeley Electron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA) Laboratory. The laboratory provides an analytical and imaging facility available to University of California, Berkeley students, faculty, and staff, as well as off-campus users.
The laboratory houses a Cameca SX-51 electron probe microanalyzer purchased in 1994 with funds from the National Science Foundation. We are currently running the most recent version of Probe for EPMA software by Probe Software, Inc.
The SX-51 includes secondary electron (SE), backscattered electron (BSE), and cathodo-luminescence (CL) imaging capabilities. The instrument is equipped with 5 wavelength dispersive spectrometers (WDS) for quantitative chemical analysis of natural and synthetic materials.
