It is essential that all majors see their undergraduate faculty adviser at least once a semester for course planning and other related academic matters.
Not only do these visits serve an immediate productive purpose by establishing a coherent program, they also have a long range value as well since the advisors can help students select graduate programs or write references for job and academic applications, and to establish contact with other faculty. If majors cannot make the faculty adviser's office hours, the advisers can provide alternative scheduling. Advisers and all faculty, even if they are busy, are dedicated to being in touch with undergraduate students and to make their years at Berkeley successful.
They also welcome comments and constructive criticism on ways to improve departmental programs. Undergraduates should make sure that they visit the College of Letters and Science for a degree check after completing 90 units. They should also have a degree check at the beginning of the semester in which they plan to graduate. Degree checks can be done online using the Degree Audit Reporting System.
