Professor Imke de Pater Wins Two Prestigious Awards

Congratulations to Professor Imke de Pater on receiving two major awards! Prof. de Pater is one of three faculty members on campus to receive the 2017 Berkeley Faculty Mentor Award. The Faculty Mentor Award honors members of the Berkeley Faculty who have shown an outstanding commitment and sustained excellence in mentoring, advising and generally supporting graduate students. 

Furthermore, Prof. de Pater is the recipient of the 2017 Oort Professorship at Leiden University in the Netherlands. As part of her duties of this dinstinguished chair, Profe. de Pater will deliver a public lecture on May 11, 2017 in Leiden. Oort Lectures in previous years were given at Leiden University by Reinhard Genzel, Joe Silk, Roger Blandford, Sandy Faber and Frank Shu.

Professor de Pater is jointly appointed in the Berkeley Departments of Earth & Planetary Science and Astronomy and is former chair of the Astronomy Department. She has been a faculty member at Berkeley since 1997.
